[ "that would be georgia." ]Kate takes in a deep lungful of salt-sharp air, savoring the smell of the ocean and the spectacular view.
Foam-flecked waves lap at her bare feet and ankles; she gives Bill's hand a squeeze, not sure who needs the reassurance most.

He gives a single, sharp nod.
"An' yours of course. This," he lifts their hands together, "shows we're both taken. So you don't gotta worry."

He looks over at her with almost a pout. A beat, and it turns back into a smile.
"See then? You ain't worried, so clearly the plan is workin'."

The airy, carefree quality to this back-and-forth is something Kate hasn't realized she's been missing until right now.
Feeling lighter than she has in weeks, she swings their joined hands a little; casting a glance down the way, she spots the coffee shop Bill mentioned on a nearby corner.

He can't begin to describe how good this feels, how much he's loving this time with her, so he just enjoys it. Judging by her smiles and laughter, she already knows.
He's surprised to see the coffee shop ahead, he hasn't really been paying attention to where they're going. Now that he knows, though, he points it out.
"Here y'go, Kate. Charleston Corner Cafe. Coffee for you, an' fresh baked goodies for me."
Looking over, he gives her a wink.
"I'm of course totally willin' t'share."

It's a small place, definitely having a local feel. Fresh baked items are in a display case, and there's a small lunch menu on a chalkboard. As for the coffee, the machines are all gleaming and the selection is huge.
Bill looks around, then glances at Kate for her reaction.

(The Belle of the Ball sounds particularly delicious, if sweet.)
She's so intent on the board that she doesn't notice the two brunettes from earlier seated at a small table by a window.
"Great choice," she says with clear approval, turning to Bill. "Do you want to get anything for here?"
no subject
At Kate's question he shifts his focus, checking over the selection, then looking at her.
"You're the expert, how 'bout you pick me somethin'?"
After last night's caviar turned out okay he's pretty willing to put his taste buds and stomach in her hands.

After much deliberation (including several sideways glances and half-smiles in Bill's direction), she settles on the enormous mocha chocolate-chip muffin with pecans.
"But what do you think? Good pick?"
no subject
"Great pick." One he'd been eying, even.
Giving her a wide smile he nods back towards the counter.
"Now, what're we drinkin'?"
no subject
Stepping forward, she orders a latte for Bill and a dry cappuccino for herself.
"My treat," she tells him as the barista plates the muffin.
no subject
Reaching for his wallet, he puts it back away and doesn't protest as his eyes are on the muffin.
"Thanks."
no subject
"Be right back," she says, nodding toward the restrooms. "Grab us a seat?"
no subject
Bill nods and takes the giant muffin over to a nearby table.
Sitting down, he picks chocolate chips from the muffin while waiting for her and their drinks.

"Excuse me," she says, with a friendly smile. "I see you're here with someone, but I can't keep thinking that I know you from somewhere."
A beat.
"I swear that's not a line."
no subject
"I'm sorry, I dunno."
He actually might, thinking that she may have seen him on the news, but doesn't want to bring that up.
"It's been awhile since I been to Charleston."
no subject
"I just can't shake the feeling," she says with a soft laugh. "Anyway, I'm Megan, and I'm an art student at USC."
She produces a business card.
"I'm a senior, but I'm running my own photography business."
Her expression, still friendly and open, takes on an appraising quality as she places the card next to Bill's saucer, one slim, tan finger tapping her contact information.
"If you're ever back in the area, give me a call or e-mail me. I'd love to shoot you sometime."
With a wink, she turns and saunters back to her table, where her wide-eyed friend is mouthing oh my god.
Kate reappears, approaching the counter to collect the drinks just as Megan is reclaiming her seat.
Her friend's giggly, "You did not just do that" is audible, but Kate is thanking the barista as she lifts the two over-sized ceramic mugs.

When he sees Kate he lifts the business card from the table and tucks it into his shirt pocket before she turns with the drinks.
"I saved you some chocolate chips."

Once she slides into her seat, she appropriates a pinch from the muffin's top and pops it into her mouth.

He takes a piece of muffin for himself, then pulls his mug close.
"How is it?"
no subject
"I'll have to try to make these at home," she says, once she's swallowed.
Reaching for her cappuccino, she spots the girls across the room, and hides her amusement with her mug.
no subject
He nods, liking the flavor, and pulls off another piece of muffin.
Seeing her small duck behind her cup, he gives a slight headtilt while picking pecans out from the muffin.
